Are you an excellent high school athlete? Are you searching for money for college? If you are a dedicated athlete then you should consider applying for an athletic scholarship. You don't have to be the number one player on the team, but should be at the top notch varsity level in your sport.

Many athletes don't apply for athletic scholarships because they think that they wouldn't earn them. Don't automatically assume that you won't earn an athletic scholarship. Athletic scholarships depend on a great number of factors including the size of your school, the strength of the athletic program, and your athletic talent.

Therefore, it is important to try for these athletic scholarships because you may just earn one. An athletic scholarship can provide money for college that many students desperately need. What do you need to do in order to earn an athletic scholarship?

Following is a list of items you will need to accomplish to put yourself in the running for an athletic scholarship.

How to earn an Athletic Scholarship

  • Promote yourself and have the courage to apply. The college athletic team coach won't know that you are a star player unless you tell them.

  • Talk with your high school athletic coach and school counselor for help. They can guide you through the process. They will be able to direct you to the contact information for athletic recruiters at the schools to which you are applying. They will assist you in making contact with the recruiter from those schools.

  • College athletic recruiters will need to review your athletic profile. Check with each college athletic department for the proper procedure as it may vary.

College recruiters may contact you to set up meetings and/or to come watch you compete in your sport. They will want to evaluate your athletic ability first hand.

  • Make sure that you earn good grades throughout your entire high school years. It is tempting to glide through senior year, but don't do this. If you maintain good grades then you have a chance of earning additional scholarships that bring you more money for college.

  • Not all athletic scholarships are full rides or 100% covered. Therefore, you will most likely need to find additional resources regarding money for college.

If you think that you might have a chance or want to play athletics in college then seriously consider applying for an athletic scholarship. You might as well apply because you never know…you could earn a full ride to play baseball. That would be an awesome way to receive money for college. Plus, you would be able to play a sport you love while earning your college education.
