I am a high school athlete, and my grades suffered due to playing
sports.

Are you a high school athlete that has spent countless hours practicing and
competing in your sport? Many high school athletes have three hours of practice
every day after school and even additional morning practices before the first
school bell.
In addition, high school athletes have competitions during the week and on the
weekends. This dedication to your sport cuts down on the amount of time you can
study and when you do have time to study you are too tired from sports practice.
One side effect of playing high school sports is not devoting enough time to
school. This can lead to poor grades. You had fun playing your high school
sport, but are now worried that you might not be able to go to college due to
your poor academic performance. Are you going to be prevented from obtaining a
college education because of your poor grades?
The answer is most likely not. You might not be accepted to the college of your
choice, but you will be able to find a college to attend. Colleges and
universities review more then just your academic transcript. A college
admissions board also reviews the following:
Colleges and universities recruit students for their athletic teams. If
you are an outstanding athlete then you have a chance of earning a full ride
or partial ride college athletic scholarship. This student scholarship can
provide money for college and supply you with the academic environment you
desire.
If your grades are slipping due to athletics you should try to focus more on
your schoolwork. Your college education will stay with you forever while
your athletic skills will not. However, all is not lost if you have a few
poor grades. Explain in your college essays that you have focused on
athletics. Also dedicate yourself to your schoolwork all the way through
graduation. Don't be lazy senior year. You still need to impress the college
admissions board.
Athletics are a big part of your life and perhaps you want to play college
sports. If so, apply for an athletic scholarship. It is a great way to find
free money for college.
