It's time to find money for college. Where are you going to find the much needed money for your college education? First you should check with the Financial Aid office in your college or university if you need to borrow money for college. The Financial Aid office will be one of your best bets for attaining money for college.

You might think that your odds of receiving financial aid are low or that you don't even qualify for Financial Aid. However, you may be incorrect. The odds of receiving financial aid are better then you think. The key is that you know how to improve these odds.

Ways to Improve Odds of Receiving Financial Aid

  1. Contact the Financial Aid office directly and/or by phone & website to receive a Financial Aid packet. Try to receive the financial aid information in October/November or as soon as possible.

  2. You will need to fill out a "needs analysis" form to see if you qualify for financial aid. Make sure that you complete this by the end of December at the latest.

  3. Find out the application deadlines for merit scholarships, and any other needs based financial opportunities. The financial aid deadline for the "needs analysis" form is typically January 1st.

  4. Keep track of any documentation and correspondence you send to and receive from your school. It is best to be as organized as possible.

  5.  You should hear back from your college regarding your financial aid status in February or March. They will send you a "needs analysis report" that signifies whether you will or will not receive financial aid. Contact the Financial Aid office at your college if you do not receive this information by the end of March.

  6. Verify the deadlines for financial aid. Ensure that your "needs analysis report" contains the right information. Make sure to apply for financial aid before the deadline.

The main factors that will improve your odds of receiving financial aid are that you keep track of all the deadline dates and documents that are required for submission. If at any time you have questions about a deadline or forms make sure you to contact the financial aid office. Avoid assuming anything without verification. If you have all your items organized then hopefully financial aid will bring the much needed money for college your way.
